uni-app x Vapor Mode Has Live Apps: Migration Costs Range from 15 Person-Days to a Solo Month
Stop asking whether uni-app x Vapor mode is mature — plenty of apps using it are already in the app stores
uni-app x Vapor mode offers rendering speed faster than native, supports hot updates after release, and is AI-friendly.
But developers still have questions:
- Is uni-app x Vapor mode mature?
- Are there any apps actually online and running in production?
- To upgrade an existing project to Vapor mode, how many people and how much time are needed?
Recently, we followed up with some uni-app x Vapor mode developers and collected a batch of cases. We interviewed them about their real feelings: how long it took, what they're satisfied with, and what they still expect.
Let's look at the cases first.

Developer interviews
We interviewed several developers. Some previously used the older uni-app, some used uni-app x's VDOM mode, and some used Flutter. All migrated to uni-app x Vapor mode, and each case is representative in its own way.
- 语法分析助手 (Grammar Analysis Assistant): migrated from older uni-app to uni-app x Vapor mode. The developer reported "the speed is indeed much faster," and the same codebase was also released as a mini-program and a PC version;
- 金股讯 (Jin Gu Xun): upgraded from uni-app x VDOM mode to Vapor mode. Compared with UTS, Vapor mode is based on TS/JS, which better matches development habits;
- 鲸鲨记账 (Whale Shark Bookkeeping): rebuilt from Flutter to uni-app x Vapor mode. The team migrated for HarmonyOS compatibility and felt the performance improvement in long lists.
These three interview cases are all apps with hundreds of thousands of downloads, accumulated real users, and formally operated products.
They chose uni-app x Vapor mode while needing to maintain existing business continuity, real-user experience, and ongoing version iteration. For developers preparing for technology selection, these practical cases are more valuable as references, and you can download and try them directly from the app stores.
语法分析助手: One person, one month, speed and multi-end reuse both paid off
语法分析助手 is an English learning tool. To add more native features later, the developer decided to upgrade from the older uni-app. They had previously tried upgrading to uni-app x VDOM mode but did not succeed, and finally completed the migration under Vapor mode.

|---|---|
This migration was done by 1 person in about 1 month, mainly using Cursor. Most of the business code in the old project was already written in TS, making the migration to Vapor mode convenient.
Asked about the post-upgrade experience, his answer was direct:
"The speed is indeed much faster."
Another gain was multi-end reuse. The developer reported that the same codebase was used to release an App, a mini-program, and a website, and a desktop version was also provided. The desktop version wraps web content with Tauri.
You can download it from the App Store and Huawei AppGallery, or search "语法分析助手" in WeChat mini-programs.
金股讯: About 15 person-days, making the development approach more aligned with habits
金股讯 chose uni-app x when the App was first initiated, and it was one of the earliest products based on uni-app x to hit the app stores. This upgrade moved from VDOM mode to Vapor mode.
| 自选页 | 天眼页 |
|---|---|
His upgrade motivation is representative. The developer did not list performance improvement as the main reason, but development efficiency:
"Vapor mode better matches development habits."
After further discussion, the "development habits" here mainly refers to the difference between UTS and ordinary TS/JS development. In the AI development era, standard TS has a more obvious efficiency advantage over UTS.
How much work did the upgrade take? The developer's estimate:
"With AI assistance, about 15 person-days."
During the migration, the developer used uni-agent and Claude Code.
Developers still on uni-app x VDOM mode can follow 金股讯's approach and use AI to upgrade to Vapor mode for higher development efficiency.
uni-agent already has a dedicated skill for upgrading VDOM to Vapor mode, making the upgrade faster.
金股讯 has download entries on 应用宝, the App Store and the HarmonyOS app store.
鲸鲨记账: Entering from Flutter, long-list experience improved
鲸鲨记账 is an AI bookkeeping tool. Unlike the previous two cases, it was originally developed with Flutter. To be compatible with HarmonyOS, the team chose to rebuild with uni-app x and directly adopted Vapor mode.

|---|---|
According to the team, it took about 1 month to complete the rebuild, with heavy use of AI assistance.
The concrete approach: let AI first understand the original project's business logic, then use AI to rewrite the uni-app x code. The engineers spent more of their time on style restoration and testing/acceptance.
This is an approach worth referencing when an existing product rebuilds with a different tech stack: treat the original project as the business reference, let AI assist the implementation conversion, and have developers focus on checking whether pages, interactions, and features match expectations.
Has the performance experience changed after moving from Flutter to uni-app x? The developer's feedback:
"Long-list performance has improved; ordinary pages are about the same, basically indistinguishable."
This feedback is very specific. Ordinary pages keep a nearly identical feel, and scenarios like long lists gain performance. For bookkeeping products, bill records are a long-list experience worth special attention.
Combined with the HarmonyOS-supported technical route, 鲸鲨记账's move from Flutter to uni-app x Vapor mode satisfies both multi-end coverage and performance experience.
You can download it via 应用宝, the App Store and the HarmonyOS app store.
Besides long lists, uni-app x Vapor mode also offers more advantages over Flutter:
- Supports iOS liquid glass and HarmonyOS immersive light effects
- No native hybrid rendering issues
- Supports post-release hot updates
Basic APIs and development experience still need continuous improvement
In this follow-up, developers also raised some very specific suggestions.
- The 金股讯 developer wants common capabilities like QQ login and QQ share completed
- The 语法分析助手 developer mentioned basic interfaces such as the SQLite database (DCloud has provided an SQLite plugin: https://ext.dcloud.net.cn/plugin?id=29856)
- Some developers also reported long full-compile waits (later resolved; 5.31+ uses lang="ts" or "js")
These are features used in real business scenarios. The more fully supported they are, the less custom adaptation developers need to do themselves, and the smoother the development experience.
AI-assisted upgrades have been validated by real projects
These three cases share a common thread: all developers used AI.
AI is very good at translation.
AI can help understand existing business logic, convert code, and adjust pages, with developers verifying item by item. Migration work that previously required lots of manual processing now has a more efficient way to be done.
Among them, 金股讯 actually used uni-agent in its upgrade. 语法分析助手 and 鲸鲨记账 mainly used Cursor during migration, and we recommended uni-agent to them too.
For developers preparing to upgrade, we recommend trying uni-agent first.
uni-agent is an AI coding assistant provided by DCloud for uni-app(x) developers, with built-in skills and knowledge bases for uni products, and a complete development, verification, and testing toolchain.
- uni-agent's knowledge base includes the latest uni documentation, helping AI models with lagging training data better understand the newest uni-app x. It is also faster, more accurate, and saves tokens compared with web search.
- uni-agent connects to DCloud issues and DCloud Q&A community data. It can tell whether a bug already exists and in which version it was fixed.
- uni-agent connects to high-quality plugin market data, making it possible to determine that a developer's need doesn't require writing from scratch and can use a quality library directly, faster, saving tokens, and more stable.
- uni-agent integrates a large number of automation tools that enable AI to work automatically, writing code, debugging, testing, and publishing on its own, multiplying efficiency.
- uni-agent supports a mobile app, letting you command your digital employee anytime, anywhere. You can also package on the phone to preview web and APK results.
- uni-agent supports model tiering: simple questions go to cheaper models, complex questions go to specialized models, saving token costs.
For upgrading uni-app and uni-app x VDOM applications:
For uni-app x VDOM mode, uni-agent already has a built-in skill for upgrading to Vapor mode. The official hello uni-app x sample has more than 400 pages, plus open-source libraries like uni-id, uni-pay, and uni-ai. Previously all were VDOM option-style pages, and all were upgraded to Vapor mode with the help of uni-agent. VDOM to Vapor upgrade
For older uni-app projects, follow the official upgrade guide and let uni-agent handle it in stages.
uni-agent significantly improves migration efficiency. With today's uni-agent support, actual migration time for developers should be much shorter than the first batch of case developers.
Now, try it with your own project
These real projects give concrete references for migration investment and upgrade returns: speed, long-list experience, development habits, and multi-end code reuse all have answers from developers.
For developers still stuck with early impressions, we suggest re-experiencing today's uni-app x Vapor mode.
