JitWord Open-Sources doc2docx for One-Click .doc to .docx Conversion
doc2docx Solution, Open-Sourced!
JitWord Collaborative AI Document Team, from JitWord AI products: JitWord Collaborative AI Document, JitKnow AI Knowledge Base, Pxcharts Super Spreadsheet
Recently, our JitWord Collaborative AI Document team open-sourced a solution that can convert old Word format (.doc) files to the universal .docx format in one click, enabling web-based preview of old Word formats.
In short, what doc2docx does is convert Word 97-2003 binary documents (.doc) to OOXML (.docx).
Why Implement .doc to .docx
We all know that .docx format is the open and mainstream Word file format, while .doc is relatively old, closed, and complex binary. However, many government and enterprise units still retain a large number of historical documents in .doc format, which naturally makes it difficult to directly support online preview and online editing.
But in the past two years, with the implementation of domestic office systems and the acceleration of digitalization of enterprise knowledge assets, many units have encountered a common difficulty when building AI knowledge bases and document middle platforms: the huge volume of existing .doc documents, the extremely high cost of manually re-saving or transcribing, and the conversion process easily loses layout, images, headers/footers and other key content. A large amount of valuable historical documents cannot be integrated into online collaboration and AI retrieval chains.
Fortunately, after researching many technical solutions, our R&D team finally designed a relatively reliable solution that can convert .doc to .docx in one click, and then leverage JitWord's collaborative document's powerful docx parsing and editing capabilities to achieve real-time online editing of doc files.
Below are some cases of editing Word in JitWord:
1. Multi-person Collaborative Editing of Word
2. Editing Revision Review Records in Word Files
3. Comparing and Auditing Different Word Documents
Of course, the above are just some scenarios.
How to Use Doc2Docx
After the background and application scenarios, let me share in detail how to use our open-source solution.
As shown above, integrating it into a project only requires 3 steps, it's very simple. Below is the list of platforms it supports:
It can be seen that mainstream operating systems are supported. We internally designed a detail: when developers install via npm, doc2docx automatically detects the current operating system and dynamically installs the package that matches the current system. Developers don't need to worry about which platform to choose.
Finally
Our JitWord technical team is also working on more valuable AI office solutions, such as JitWord Collaborative AI Document. In the future, we will also launch an OFD editor adapted to domestic office environments. You can also follow our official account to get the latest updates.
