OpenCode's 70-Yuan Subscription Delivers 3.6 Billion Tokens, Slashing AI Costs Tenfold
Token volume is the real cost driver in AI-assisted development; opencode's flat-rate pricing cuts that cost to about a third of official DeepSeek rates, which changes how many iterations and autonomous loops a developer can afford to run.
OpenCode's flat-rate plans are changing the token economics for AI-assisted coding. A base subscription at 70 yuan just covered 3.6 billion tokens of DeepSeek V4.1 Flash usage during 10 days of heavy work, with 20% of the plan left over. The same volume on DeepSeek's official API runs past 200 yuan.
That price gap compounds quickly. One developer previously burned close to 1,000 yuan a month on AI; three base subscriptions cost 200 yuan and deliver enough usage to be comfortable. OpenCode also accepts WeChat and Alipay, so no credit card is needed.
The pricing scheme has a quirk: the Plus plan costs four times the base but only doubles the usage, making two base plans 140 yuan cheaper than one Plus. The platform's base plan allows 34,000+ requests on the lowest-tier model, which is plenty for aggressive, iterative coding.
A 3.6-billion-token burn in 10 days shows how token-hungry AI coding has become; a pricing model that can't absorb that volume becomes the bottleneck.
The Plus plan's 4x price for 2x usage looks like a miscalculation or a deliberate nudge toward the base plan, which is the only sensible option.
Flat-rate resellers such as opencode undercut official API pricing; if enough developers switch, official providers will have to match with their own subscriptions or lose the heavy users.
