🌰Chestnut Frontend Tech Weekly Issue 151 (2026.10.19 - 2026.10.25): Browse the latest frontend news of the week, learn excellent articles from home and abroad, and keep our curiosity about frontend.

📰 Tech News

  1. ViteConf 2026: Last week's ViteConf had about 30 talks, including a keynote by Evan You focused on engineering tools in the age of intelligent agents. It also announced Vitest 5, updates to Vite developer tools, and that Oxc is about to get a more performant parser.

  2. React Router 8.5: Deprecated its own view transition API in favor of React's <ViewTransition> component, and added an experimental "API-only" mode.

  3. React Native 0.88: React Native released version 0.88, adding variable fonts and event dispatch capabilities. Interestingly, this is only the third time a new version has shipped without breaking changes. Other projects wouldn't make a big deal of this, but RN is happy with it.

  4. 2026 State of HTML Survey: This annual survey is open again, tracking awareness and real-world usage of HTML features and browser APIs. This year it covers Web Components, progressive enhancement, AI-related capabilities, and more. It takes less than 15 minutes, and you can learn something new while participating.

📒 Tech Articles

  1. Do Web Components Have a Future If Nobody is Writing Them?: If nobody is writing Web Components, does it still have a future? Nolan has been building, maintaining, and promoting Web Components for years, so this thoughtful, slightly wistful article carries weight.

  2. AI Streaming Engineering Guide: When the Model Spits Out Half-Finished JSON, How Does the Frontend Render It As It Receives It?: This is an approachable practical version. It keeps all the engineering essentials, real performance comparisons, and out-of-the-box code across frameworks (vanilla JS / Vue 3 / React). You can read it in 8 minutes and drop it directly into your project.

  3. From "Able to Chat" to "Able to Work": Five-Level Evolution of AI Agents, Core Concepts Dissected, and the Industry Landscape: From "able to chat" to "able to work": five-level evolution of AI agents, core concepts dissection, and industry landscape.

🔧 Dev Tools

  1. Pretext 1.0: Multi-line text layout without DOM manipulation. Version 1.0 ports the browser's native line-breaking logic, so layout results are closer to what the browser actually renders.

  1. Chartist 2.0: The lightweight SVG chart library is back. Born in 2014 and styled with CSS, this SVG chart library has been updated again after "years of silence." The new version adopts a composable API, supports server-side SVG output and terminal charts. The line chart version is still about 12KB gzipped, and a migration guide from 1.x is provided.
