Running Cloudflare's 37k-Star Security Audit Skill in Claude Code Without Burning the Budget
An unmodified full scan can break a one-person company's budget in a single run, and Cloudflare has published no accuracy, false-positive, or token-cost numbers to plan around. Scoping the skill to the paths that actually take payments and isolate tenants turns it from a cost risk into a usable safety net.
Cloudflare's `security-audit-skill` is an MIT-licensed Agent Skill that grew from about 450 lines into the framework behind continuous scans of Cloudflare's 128 codebases. It passed 37,000 GitHub stars by October 22, 2026, after a September refactor split the runtime into six phases and eight audit dimensions. Cloudflare has not published accuracy, false-positive, or token-cost numbers, and the skill is designed for agents that support parallel sub-agents, which is exactly what makes an unmodified run expensive.
A state-machine gate in CLAUDE.md, built by independent developer Meng Jian, keeps audits accountable. The rules only enter reconnaissance when a diff touches auth, payment callbacks, tenant queries, or prompt assembly; they cap concurrent hunters at two, verify candidates with the skill's local Node.js validators, and abort when context limits are hit or changes are pure UI. The recommended path is to run targeted audits on payment and multi-tenant paths and to skip the skill entirely for static sites, local scripts, and layout-only tools.
The expensive part of a full scan sits in the context sub-agents drag in while hunting through dimensions irrelevant to the codebase, such as native mobile checks on a web project or stylesheet-heavy diffs in RPC analysis.
Because Cloudflare has not published accuracy, false-positive, or cost baselines, the 37,000-star skill is still an unmeasured tool; the state-machine constraints are a practical substitute for missing vendor metrics.
The AAIF handover changes governance rather than day-to-day use: loading, folder format, and runtime interface stay identical, so the standardization is mainly a migration-cost play, not a breaking change.
For a solo operator, tokens are production overhead, not a magic resource; the 'maximize sales, minimize expenses' framing makes AI context throughput a line item to trim like any other cost.
