01 Introduction
Many Agent tools only support custom models, and free models are not plentiful. OpenCode recently increased its free models to 10 at once. Many people may not be used to OpenCode's desktop client, and the Workbuddy client interface is decent. So can OpenCode's free models be applied to Workbuddy?
I actually tried this before and it was useless; there was simply no way to configure it. Today I found a piece of software that can ferry OpenCode's free models over to Workbuddy: OC Ferry.
02 Overview
OC Ferry is a cross-platform tray application with a very clear purpose: to ferry OpenCode's free models over to WorkBuddy.
Key points:
- Zero threshold: no login or registration, no
API Key, works out of the box - Filter free by price: only the price fields count (input/output/cache read and write all being 0 means free); a name containing
freedoes not count, and deprecated ones are directly excluded. - Check caching: models that pass detection are cached for 6 hours, so restarting is basically instant, no full re-test every time.
- Only add, never delete [user entries]: on import, it only adds or removes its own tagged entries; your hand-written config is untouched; before writing, it backs up, locks, and atomically replaces.
- Local forwarding port: it starts an
OpenAI-compatible forwarding port that only listens on127.0.0.1:41980, with an approval fence, so models can never perform local machine actions on their own.

The current project only supports Mac; Win requires custom packaging. If you want to be lazy, you can use another repository that specifically packages the long repository above into a Win-ready launcher.

03 Installation and Use
On first open, it takes a while to download OpenCode and load the models:
After the models are loaded, you can see the available models.
3.1 Workbuddy Desktop
The software automatically imports the json file into Workbuddy:

3.2 Codebuddy Plugin
If Workbuddy works, can the Codebuddy plugin work too? Might as well try!
Codebuddy will not recognize it automatically; you need to configure the models.json file. Simply copy Workbuddy's models.json file over.
Open the config file
On first open, if no custom models have been configured, this file is empty.
Migration
Copy Workbuddy's models.json over.

3.3 Notes
OC Ferry is a bridge service that is compatible with OpenAI-compatible forwarding ports. So OC Ferry cannot be stopped, otherwise the models become unavailable.
Of course, since it is compatible with OpenAI-compatible forwarding ports, other Agent tools can use it too.
04 Summary
OC Ferry's value proposition is clear: it turns the whole chore of "watching the OpenCode free pool → manually filtering what is usable → hand-filling models.json → worrying about model privilege escalation" into a small, quietly resident boat in the tray.
For folks who want to fill WorkBuddy with models at zero cost and do not want to maintain things by hand every day, this tool hits the pain point dead on.
