Doubao Is No Longer a Chatbot — It Now Runs Your Desktop, Browser, and Office Suite

Hello everyone, I'm Xiaofan.

Doubao has basically become a nationwide AI application — office workers, seniors, kids, almost everyone has it on their phone. I installed it on my parents' phones early on, and they use it very smoothly. In their words, Doubao is just right, it knows everything. Before, things like how to enlarge the phone font, how to send photos to the family group, or what the arrows on a medical report meant — they would call me to ask. Now they just voice-chat with Doubao, ask, and handle it themselves.

But recently I discovered that Doubao has quietly updated a huge batch of things: it can operate your local computer, use a browser, supports calling Skills and scheduled tasks, has a built-in Office suite, and even supports professional image and video design.

I wonder if you're like me, with your perception still stuck on last year — a Q&A tool that can chat?

This article talks about my real experience using it over the past few days, along with a few practical cases that anyone can use right away.

01 Installation

Go to the official site: https://www.doubao.com/download/desktop to download

Then log in with your Feishu account

02 Work Task Mode: From 'You Ask, I Answer' to 'You Say, I Do'

Previously, Doubao only had a conversation mode, suitable for daily Q&A. Now Doubao has added a work mode, which is the core of this update.

Work Device

Determines which computer Doubao works on.

Choose local computer, and it will directly read your files, open software, and click the mouse;

Choose cloud computer, and tasks run in the cloud — even if your computer is shut down, it can continue executing.

Project

Equivalent to defining a workspace. For example, I created a 'Xiaofan Workspace', and Doubao will only search and store results within this folder, not roam all over the computer. The sense of security is higher than letting a new employee directly log into my computer.

Permission Settings

Default is confirm on demand

• Always Ask: Editing external files and using the internet always asks; lowest permission, safest
• Confirm on Demand: When Doubao performs a risky operation, it needs your confirmation before proceeding
• Allow All: No restrictions; can freely operate any file on your computer and access the internet

Skills

These are various built-in skills of Doubao.

Making PPTs, analyzing data, organizing tables — these repetitive tasks can directly call ready-made skills, without starting from 'Hello, please help me' every time.

Connectors

Used to connect third-party tools. Install the Feishu connector, and Doubao can read your group chats, documents, calendars, and then do work for you.

03 Remote Control Computer via Phone: Assign Tasks Even on the Commute Home

This is also what I find most satisfying.

As long as the phone and computer are logged into the same Doubao account, switch to 'Work' mode on the phone, and you can directly see the online computer. Select the device and workspace, send a command, and the computer side immediately starts executing.

Progress and chat history sync in real-time on both sides. If you want to add something on the fly, continue speaking on the phone, and Doubao on the computer side can continue working. The most comfortable part is that on Windows, it runs in an independent virtual desktop, not occupying your screen. You do your thing, it does its thing, without interfering with each other.

For example: Last time I was eating out, without my computer, but I needed an invoice file on the computer.

So I took out my phone and told Doubao, help me find the invoice on the computer, and then Doubao started working diligently.

04 I Tested Four Scenarios, Thrilled to the Max

The following four cases are real experiences where I threw tasks to Doubao and basically didn't lift a finger myself.

CASE 01 Organize Desktop Folder

My 'Downloads' folder on the computer is a perennial disaster zone. Screenshots, PDFs, downloaded installers, etc., all mixed together, finding a file is harder than reaching the sky.

I threw this folder to Doubao and asked it to organize by type. It first identified the file formats, then created subdirectories like 'Images', 'Documents', 'Installers', etc., classified the files accordingly, and even renamed them. The whole process, I only said one sentence, and then Doubao organized it for me.

CASE 02 Operate Browser, Compare Prices for the Same Item, Auto-Generate Purchase Advice

You only need to say this to Doubao

"Help me compare the price of 'Sony WH-1000XM5 Over-Ear Headphones' on JD.com, Taobao, and Pinduoduo. I need accurate real-time prices. Organize each platform's selling price, promotions, delivery time, and whether it's self-operated into an Excel spreadsheet saved to the desktop, and finally tell me which is the best deal."

Let's see what Doubao did for us? Doubao automatically does these 6 steps

1. Open the browser, visit JD.com, Taobao, and Pinduoduo official websites in sequence
2. Search for the same product on each platform, enter the detail page
3. Capture key information: current listed price, discounts/coupons, estimated delivery time, whether self-operated, whether there are gifts or installment-free plans
4. Open Excel/WPS, create a new comparison table, fill in the information from the three platforms row by row
5. Calculate the actual final price for each platform (after deducting discounts), highlight the lowest price
6. Save the table to the desktop, and give you a text summary recommendation

CASE 03 One-Click 'Filing and Indexing' of Feishu Documents — Automatically Build a Personal Knowledge Index

Pain Point

Many people have dozens or hundreds of documents stored in their Feishu cloud drive, but have never systematically organized them. Wanting to find an old document relies entirely on luck with keyword searches; storing is as good as not storing.

You only need to say this to Doubao (can be copied directly)

"Help me organize all documents under 'My Space' in Feishu Cloud Drive: read the content of each document one by one, automatically determine the category (Reading Notes / Study Notes / Work Plans / Meeting Minutes / Life Records / Other), extract core summaries and keywords. Then create a multi-dimensional table as a knowledge index, with fields including document name, category, keywords, content summary, creation time, and original link. Finally, generate a navigation homepage document, displaying all documents grouped by category, with each document name having a hyperlink to jump to the original. Put these two products into a newly created '📚 Personal Knowledge Index' folder."

Ultimately, operating Feishu, it generated the following personal knowledge index for me

• A "📚 Personal Knowledge Index" folder, containing two things:

  • A multi-dimensional table: supports filtering by category, searching by keyword, switching different views (e.g., viewing by timeline, viewing by category kanban)
  • A navigation homepage document: like a bookshelf, displays all documents by category, click the title to jump directly

• In the future, when new documents are added, just say "Update the knowledge index" , and it can automatically incrementally add records, without needing to redo the entire thing each time

Doubao automatically does these 6 steps

1. Scan Feishu Cloud Drive all documents under "My Space" (can specify excluding certain folders)
2. Read the content of each document one by one, AI automatically determines document category, refines a 2-3 sentence summary, extracts keyword tags
3. Create a new Feishu multi-dimensional table, create fields: Document Name / Category / Keywords / Content Summary / Creation Time / Last Modified / Original Link
4. Batch write index information for all documents
5. Create a new navigation document, layout grouped by category, each document name is a hyperlink, click to jump directly to the original; the multi-dimensional table is also embedded in the page
6. Navigation document + multi-dimensional table are uniformly placed into the newly created "📚 Personal Knowledge Index" folder

CASE 04 Help Me Generate and Modify PPT

Pain Point

For a programmer, encountering bugs is not scary; writing documents and making PPTs is. Now, Doubao can do it for me.

You just need to select PPT in more skills, then say to Doubao:

Help me generate a personal introduction PPT for programmer Xiaofan. The PPT needs to search the internet for programmer Xiaofan, then generate corresponding content.

Below is the 10-page PPT it generated for me, the effect is really quite good

Doubao can not only help generate PPTs but also help us modify PPTs, allowing targeted edits.

For example, I was not satisfied with the third page of the PPT, needing to change the JavaScript skill to 85%, and the right image needed to insert a programming language-related picture. Just click AI Edit, then input the areas needing modification.

04 A Few Getting-Started Tips

If you want to try it, here are a few personal suggestions:

1. Turbo mode has free quota, sufficient for light use; heavy users can then open Pro.
2. When using local computer mode for the first time, remember to authorize the pop-up, otherwise Doubao won't get operation permissions.
3. Before doing complex tasks, create a project first, put the files to be used into the project folder, Doubao won't randomly browse other directories.
4. Make good use of the skill market, don't handwrite Prompts every time, ready-made skills can save a lot of Tokens.
